Background

Eluceda is searching for a Quality Control (QC) Chemist ideally with skills in biochemistry, with a view to developing and carrying out analytic tests for various sensing applications. These sensor systems will be used in a wide range of applications from microbial and virus detection to field use, industrial diagnostics and for counterfeit identification purposes. 


Job Description

The initial work will be around the development of process control of our electrochemical sensing systems, but as the role and the company develops you will also be required to contribute to work on other systems including, for example, developing inorganic particles or adapting the sensor platform to identify specific compounds for our customers.


Due to our ambitious growth plans, we are looking for candidates with a level of self-motivation, creativity, and adaptability.


You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with responsibility to develop, qualify and produce sensing systems and test kits for our various applications with the exciting prospect of helping the team to develop. The nature of the role means that at different times you will be asked to lead a team to accomplish a series of tasks or goals, and others where you are part of a team, it is essential that you will be able to see the bigger company picture when setting your priorities.


The ideal candidate will be either degree level qualified or have a number of years of experience in a relevant environment.

 

Given the multisite nature of the business you have to be able to work as part of a team and be prepared to work with people on different sites. You will also be required to meet with customers and develop strategic relationships with our key suppliers.

Requirements:

You will be situated in the laboratories at the Burnley HQ and, depending on experience, will report to the Technical Director. You will be required to travel to the laboratories at the University of York and to see customers as required, so a valid Driving Licence is essential.


Key Duties:

1. Work safely on the premises and identify areas for improvement.

2. Develop systems and processes to ensure that materials and systems meet our customer requirements.

3. Contribute with ideas to develop and enhance the company’s IP portfolio.

4. Conduct research & systems with a view to improved manufacture and scale up. 

5. Provide input or lead continuous improvement of the company at all levels.

6. Provide assistance to develop co-workers and colleagues.

7. Plan and coordinate the work, projects and activities.

8. Attend or organise project (or other) meetings when required.

9. Identify and pursue opportunities to develop the company with management agreement.

10. Taking part in planning consulting and management of production.

11. Appraisal management of any staff according to company policies.

12. Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff within the company. 

13. Ensure that equipment is fit for purpose and maintained.

14. Develop strategic relationships with key suppliers.

15. Develop relationships with clients with respect to delivering to project outcomes and materials/products as required.

16. Maintain clean and professional standards within the building.

17. Provide regular reports on Quality and R&D activities.

18. Stimulate and maintain a good atmosphere in the workplace.
